One day I want to become a writer, and artist, an editor. I have traveled so much with my parents and my brothers that they are my closest friends and sometimes I wonder if I can actually say I come from any certain country. I love food so much that I think of countries according to the dishes they serve. And also, I am sharing my life with you.

Monday's recommendation

Although I do realize I have already recommended a book that is a follow-up to Pride and Prejudice, this book isn't exactly a sequel.

Darcy's Diary
by Amanda Grange

This story takes place during the Pride and Prejudice story but instead of following our usual main character, Elizabeth Bennet, we follow a new character. Fitzwilliam Darcy.
Oh yes. Pride and Prejudice from Mr. Darcy's point of view.
I know there are many books that boast this point of view, or at least three that I know of, but this book is by far the most true to the original Jane Austen story and the author really brings all of his thoughts to life. A great read for any Jane Austen fan out there and even if you haven't read Pride and Prejudice. Maybe the new point of view will convince you to do so.

Morning walks

There's nothing better to wake you up (after waking up at 6AM to bring little brother to school) then a good walk with all three dogs in the Clos de Gaillard. Accompanied, as we are some times, by my childhood friend Delphine and her mother (moms friend) Annie.
Unfortunately Annie didn't want her picture taken.

I think the most entertaining thing about going on a walk each time, are the noises that Athos makes. The road, nay the village!, belongs to Athos.

Or actually this is pretty entertaining too.

Because my video doesn't work yet

Sorry my computer and phone are having a fight and don't want to obey me if it means working together. So to make up for the lack of video I'm showing off my mad hairdo making skills.

Because I was playing with her hair, mother was kind enough to give me a back rub (yay!).

I love my Mummsy!

All American morning

In concurrence with missing America, and the fact that Mother likes it when I cook and she doesn't have to, I made us an all American breakfast this morning.

It came out really good as the recipes from my favorite collections of cooking books, 'mon cours de cuisine' usually do.
Now were fat and happy and for a good tea break, we're gonna go a bit more britishy with the delectable scones I made yesterday.

Sometimes I think it looks cozy in the oven and then I remind myself, it's an oven! Maybe the cold weather is getting to me...

Another evening at home

Tonight we decided we were lazy and we would eat 'pot', or at least that's what we call it (potekes in Flemish). When you just cut meat and cook it on little pots on a heating plaque, with cheese or other ingredients.

Mother and I didn't eat anything today and managed to get tipsy off of one beer. Good beer of at least 9% but still that's no excuse.

It did make for an exciting evening however.

This is mothers crazy face.

My little brother just tried to hide himself from the silly women and concentrate on his cooking.

Oh well we still had a blast!

I feel that the cat was judging us.

Lunch at Montmartre

Having lunch on Monmartre is usually a risky idea. The prices are not reasonable because it's an extreme touristy place. Why do I live here you ask? I don't rightly know sometimes, except that the Sacre Coeur is so beautiful.
In any case we plotted onward to 'Au cadet de Gascogne' where I had once before had a good steak.

We both ordered the burger to check is out. It was a bit of a topple tower and the sauce was bizarre but the fries were excellent!

I must say though that the large coke was 10€!!! yikes!

However, in good news, we ate at the Salon de The in the Galleries Lafayette.
First of all the Galleries are beautiful!

And it was considerably cheaper compared to Montmartre, which I think is worth knowing!

The lights do look like something that wouldn't make me want to eat though...

The tea was excellent and the lemon tart divine! I am an avid lemon tart eater and I really recommend this one to anyone that is like me.

Ps: sorry I don't have a picture of it...

Friday night madness

Soooo.... I got ready, as usual, to go to the train station and get back home. I, of course, got all the way down to the Abbesses metro station before I realized that I forgot my phone and sprinted to the funiculaire.
After retrieving the phone and dashing back to the funiculaire, I managed to tear my plastic bag to shreds as I pushed myself forcefully through the gate to get to the closing doors.
I then run back to the metro, tear my bag some more, trip over an old lady, make a lady trip (who I apologized to a couple of times before she admitted that she was a klutz an had fallen by herself onto my bag), dash to my connecting metro station and huff and puff behind slow people who seem to be admiring the train station rather then going to trains.
I managed to scare off a girl with the tapping of my feet and got my ticket.

Victory for getting to the train!!!

(and an apology to the girl I scared off)

Going through old pictures makes you feel so nostalgic! I couldn't help but go through all of them after yesterday's post. So here are a few more things I miss about my dear old California!

I miss Diners!!!

I miss all the very American food you get in diners!

I miss living in a port city where the seaside is just a cable car away!

I miss the Ballet! And watching the nutcracker before Christmas!

I miss my first and only Thanksgiving with friends!
I miss the Fillmore Girls apartment and how we just used to hang out there!

And again, and most of all, I miss my friends!

(here we see Inis in my old kitchen I miss it so! displaying what Brussel sprouts look like)
